Drew Pomeranz Flexible On Bullpen Role
4 years agoSan Diego Padres reliever Drew Pomeranz doesn't care whether he is the team's designated closer. Since converting to a full-time reliever, the 32-year-old southpaw has been fantastic, including a 1.45 ERA and 40 percent strikeout rate last year. He also recorded four saves in 20 appearances. Padres manager Jayce Tingler indicates he'd prefer a "set ninth-inning guy", but the Friars bullpen depth allows Pomeranz to be used more tactically. Relievers Mark Melancon and Emilio Pagan both have closing experience, and dark horses Keone Kela and Austin Adams could be in the mix. Pomeranz' 238 ADP suggests the fantasy community remains skeptical about his closing prospects, but he should return solid value as a ratios anchor and strikeout specialist while positioned to collect a handful of saves.
