Drew Pomeranz Could Return Without Rehab Assignment
3 years agoSan Diego Padres relief pitcher Drew Pomeranz (lat/shoulder) threw his second live batting practice session this weekend. According to Padres manager Jayce Tingler, Pomeranz is progressing well and there's a "good chance" that both Pomeranz and fellow reliever Pierce Johnson (triceps) return to the club without rehab assignments. Pomeranz has been sidelined since early May due to both left lat tightness and a left shoulder impingement. The length of his absence and the fact that he suffered a setback about a month ago makes it a bit surprising that the team wouldn't want him to go on a rehab assignment. Assuming there's no change of sentiment, he should be back within the next week or so. Pomeranz has a stellar 1.98 ERA and 1.17 WHIP to go along with five holds over 14 appearances on the year.
