Domingo German's Rotation Turn Skipped
6 years agoWith off days playing a role, the New York Yankees have opted to skip starting pitcher Domingo German's next turn in the rotation. That means his next start will be Thursday against the Kansas City Royals. The 26-year-old has been strong as an interim member of the starting rotation, going 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA in two starts. With his start being pushed back, James Paxton and J.A. Happ will face the Red Sox in next week's brief showdown in the Bronx. German continues to be a strong waiver wire option, as he's won each of his starts, having allowed just three runs in 11 innings of work.

Pirates Agree With Domingo German On Minor-League Deal
1 year agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates agreed with free-agent right-hander Domingo German on a $1.5 million minor-league deal on Friday. The 31-year-old Dominican hurler tossed a no-hitter against the lowly Oakland Athletics last year while with the New York Yankees, but that was easily the highlight of his season, as he finished with a 5-7 record, 4.56 ERA (4.65 FIP) and 1.08 WHIP with 34 walks and 114 strikeouts in 108 2/3 innings pitched over his 20 appearances (19 starts) in his sixth year in pinstripes. He'll have a better opportunity with the rebuilding Pirates, but German is unlikely to be much of a fantasy asset outside of NL-only leagues if he's with the big-league roster in 2024. In his six-year career, German holds a 4.41 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 2.8 walks per nine innings and 9.4 K's per nine innings in 522 1/3 frames.

Pirates Researching Noah Syndergaard, Domingo German
1 year agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates are still looking to bolster their starting rotation for 2024 and are reportedly considering free agents Noah Syndergaard and Domingo German, per Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Jason Mackey. Mackey reported that the team is doing more investigation into German's history to determine how comfortable they would be in signing him, given his numerous off-field incidents last season. As for Syndergaard, the Pirates expressed interest in him earlier this year. The 31-year-old pitched 88 2/3 innings in 18 starts for the Dodgers and Guardians in 2023, going 2-6 with a 6.50 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, and 14.3% strikeout rate. Thor used to be a viable fantasy asset, but he has a lot to prove before becoming fantasy-relevant again, and joining the Pirates would not help his value.

Domingo German Receiving Interest From Blue Jays, Orioles
1 year agoFree-agent right-hander Domingo German is receiving interest on the open market from a pair of AL East clubs, namely the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles. The veteran hurler has a checkered past as he has served a domestic violence suspension, had multiple issues with "sticky stuff", and most recently sought, and received, treatment for alcohol abuse. The 31-year-old has spent his entire six-year MLB tenure with the New York Yankees but was not tendered a qualifying offer and became a free agent in November. Most recently, he worked to a 4.56 ERA across 20 outings (19 starts) with the Bombers in 2023 while he owns a 4.41 ERA across 112 big-league appearances (89 starts) while having issues with the home run ball by way of a career 1.62 HR/9 clip.

Domingo German Has Met With Three Teams
1 year agoThe Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres and Baltimore Orioles have met with free-agent right-hander Domingo German, according to sources. The Padres and Orioles are his possible final destination. German became a free agent in early November when he refused an outright assignment to the minor leagues from the New York Yankees. The 31-year-old threw the 24th perfect game in MLB history against the Oakland Athletics last season but then later left the Yankees to enter alcohol abuse treatment. German had an uneven 2023 season by going 5-7 with a 4.56 ERA in 19 starts and one relief outing, and he's gone 31-28 with a 4.41 ERA in 89 starts and 23 relief appearances over six big-league seasons. German was suspended 10 games in May for using a sticky substance and was suspended 81 games in 2019 and 2020 for violating the league's domestic-violence policy.
