DJ LeMahieu Eyeing AL Batting Crown
5 years agoNew York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu is trying to become the first player in the modern era to win a batting title in both leagues -- he won the National League crown in 2016. Entering this weekend, he leads the American League and majors overall with a .337 average. LeMahieu is making the most hard contact (22 percent) among players with at least 500 total swings in 2019. Not only is he squaring balls up frequently, but he is also swinging more and being more aggressive. LeMahieu is hitting .330 against fastballs, .331 against breaking pitches and .383 against offspeed pitches. He's hitting line drives 30.5 percent of the time as well. He's having an MVP-caliber season and is a big reason the Yanks have held their own despite injuries to sluggers Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge. Fantasy owners that snagged LeMahieu on the cheap this year have been ecstatic.
