Dinelson Lamet Possibly Headed For Bullpen Role
3 years agoThe San Diego Padres are contemplating a bullpen role for pitcher Dinelson Lamet (forearm). After dealing with elbow, forearm and biceps issues this offseason, the 29-year-old fireball has been limited to just 34 ⅓ innings and a 3.67 ERA after myriad stints on the IL. Currently throwing in simulated games, Lamet looks poised for a rehab assignment and could rejoin the Friars by mid-August. Aside from the load management aspect, Lamet's wipeout fastball-slider combination should play well in short relief spurts. However, the Padres are lacking backend rotation depth so he may assume a hybrid role. Assuming full health, Lamet is evolving into a fantasy nonfactor outside of holds leagues, even if he can contribute strikeout rates north of 30 percent.
