Diamondbacks Sign First-Rounder Bryce Jarvis
5 years agoThe Arizona Diamondbacks signed their top pick Bryce Jarvis to a deal that includes a $2.65 million signing bonus on Thursday. The bonus is less than the $3.48 million that the No. 18 overall slot was worth. The right-hander out of Duke has a fastball that sits at 94-96 mph, a changeup and an improved slider. Jarvis had a 0.67 ERA with 40 strikeouts and two walks in 27 innings before the season was shut down this spring due to COVID-19, including a perfect game against Cornell in February and a no-hitter into the seventh inning against Florida State in March. “I think he’s a guy that’s going to get to his potential quickly,” Diamondbacks scouting director Deric Ladnier said of Jarvis after the first day of the draft.
