Diamondbacks Select Slade Caldwell At Pick 29
4 months agoWith the 29th pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, the Arizona Diamondbacks selected outfielder Slade Caldwell out of Valley View, Arkansas. The 18-year-old recently won back-to-back Gatorade Player of the Year awards. The outfielder doesn't have ideal size at 5'9, 182-pounds, but he is an advanced hitter that consistently hits line drives from the left side of the plate. Caldwell doesn't project as a power hitter, but his contact skills and defense are what will potentially get him to the next level. Although he is committed to Mississippi, it is likely that the Diamondbacks have had prior contract discussions with one of high school's star players in the draft.
