Devin Williams Showing Improvements From April
3 years agoMilwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Devin Williams got off to a rough start to the 2021 season. Over 9 2/3 innings in April, he allowed seven hits, eight walks and five earned runs, resulting in an ugly 4.66 ERA. Through May so far, he's made some strides. He's pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed three hits, three walks and two earned runs, good for a 3.18 ERA. Williams has a 15.9% walk rate on the year, which ranks him in the bottom 6% of the league. His strikeout rate is down from 53% last year to just 31.9% this year and his barrel rate is up from 5.6% last year to 11.4% this year. Williams was so phenomenal in 2020 that fantasy managers should try to remain patient, but if he continues to struggle with walks and keeps allowing runs to score, he'll be a drop candidate in many leagues.
