Devin Williams Blows Save, Takes Loss Tuesday
1 year agoMilwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams turned in his first dud of the season in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Twins. Williams came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth up by two. He allowed a leadoff solo home run, walked a hitter, and then allowed a game-tying RBI single before allowing the game-winning two-run home run. It was a complete disaster for the 28-year-old, but it was his first blown save of the season compared to 10 converted saves. He has pitched well overall with a 2.08 ERA, a 12.46 K/9 rate, and a 4.57 BB/9 rate. The walks are a bit of an issue, but the real issue has been Williams' relative lack of save opportunities overall this season. He remains a high-end closer, but his fantasy value has been limited due to a lack of opportunity to this point.
