6 years agoThe New York Mets plan on placing catcher Devin Mesoraco on the restricted list rather than grant him his release. Mesoraco plans to retire, according to a source. He will not report to Triple-A with the Mets. The Mets are quite stacked at catcher with Wilson Ramos, Travis D'Arnaud and Tomas Nido, and they also just signed Rene Rivera to a minor league deal on Monday. Mesoraco has hit just .232 with 58 home runs and 192 RBI in 468 games over eight seasons in the big leagues. He was once a promising young backstop for the Reds, but injuries derailed his career.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
