Detroit Lions Starters Play Into Third Quarter
6 years agoThe Detroit Lions first-team offense played the entire first half, as well as the first drive of the third quarter against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, before giving way to the backups. In the first half, the offense administered scoring drives of 69 and 90 yards, respectively. However, both drives ended with just field goals. Quarterback Matthew Stafford was average, completing 9 of 18 passes; however, his offensive line did not give him a lot of time to make plays, as he was sacked three times. When the first team left the game, the Lions trailed 20-6. The second and third team offenses came on to score 27 points in the remainder of the second half, eventually defeating Tampa Bay, 33-30. It would have been nice to see Detroit’s first team cash in for a touchdown or two on their scoring drives, but that is to be expected with the vanilla preseason playcalling.
