Denny McCarthy Finds Ways To Stay Among Contenders
2 years agoDenny McCarthy has missed a few cuts but when he does not, the American golfer usually nets a top-25 or better result. McCarthy in stroke play has finished 25th or better in seven consecutive tournaments. That includes a couple of top tens too. The only main concern with the golfer is his average tendencies at approaching the green. McCarthy needs to avoid trouble at Oak Hill because birdies can turn into bogeys or worse quickly on some holes. If the golfer avoids mistakes and that top-20 caliber putter (0.574 strokes gained) gets hot, McCarthy has a chance of contending again Sunday.

Denny McCarthy Looks To Continue Solid Play At TPC Sawgrass
3 weeks agoDenny McCarthy has played very sharply in 2025. He has made the cut in every event he has played in, has four top-20 finishes, and one top-5. His best finish came at The Genesis Invitational with a T-5. He looks to carry his momentum into the PLAYERS Championship, where he has also made the cut in each of the five times he's started the event. However, he has only finished in the top 20 once, which came in 2023 with a T-13. He has finished 35th or worse in the other four starts. McCarthy hopes to change his fortunes with his driving accuracy and stellar iron play. He ranks 38th in approach to green and 67th in driving accuracy. Combined with his strong putting, which ranks 56th, he may find himself in contention this week and could be worth a flyer in DFS.

Denny McCarthy Eyeing First Career Victory At PGA National
1 month agoDenny McCarthy has been hunting for his first career win in 2025, recording three top-20 finishes to start the year, including a T5 at the Genesis Invitational. He now looks to build on this strong performance at the Cognizant Classic, where he has competed seven times. Although he's missed the cut five times, McCarthy has also posted a T30 in 2022 and a T3 in 2021. He currently ranks 48th in strokes gained on approach (7.605) but sits in just the 45th percentile in greens in regulation from 150-200 yards, a range that accounts for 48.1% of all approach shots at PGA National. He mitigates this by ranking 12th in bogey avoidance and 26th in scrambling. However, off the tee remains McCarthy's biggest struggle, losing 0.103 strokes per round. With PGA National being the fifth-toughest course off the tee, McCarthy will need to improve his first shot if he hopes to claim his first Tour victory. Given his recent form and a $9,300 price tag on DraftKings, McCarthy is likely to be a popular pick this week for fantasy managers.

Denny McCarthy A Volatile Option At WM Phoenix Open
2 months agoTo start 2025, Denny McCarthy has been playing solid golf, recording finishes of T58, T16, and T46. He now shifts his focus to the WM Phoenix Open, an event he has competed in six times before. His results include a T22 (2024), three missed cuts, T59, and T33. This course rewards driving ability, an area where McCarthy struggles, ranking 90th in total driving and 116th in strokes gained off the tee. However, he does show promise with his approach game, ranking 12th in approach shots from 175-200 yards and 76th from 150-175 yards. These distances account for 42.6% of all approach shots at TPC Scottsdale. While he may not be the most appealing option at his $7,400 price tag on DraftKings, fantasy managers should weigh their options carefully.

Denny McCarthy Ready For American Express
3 months agoDenny McCarthy has played in two tournaments already in 2025. The American golfer did not make too many birdies at The Sentry. However, he started to warm up a little at the Sony Open. McCarthy scored his first Top 25 of the new year. He has yet to win an event in 191 appearances but 2024 was a solid effort for the University of Virginia alum. McCarthy had four Top 10 results and only missed four cuts in 24 events. Overall, he ended 43rd in the world rankings (OWGR). McCarthy finished tied for sixth in 2022 at PGA West in La Quinta. He cannot be counted out here and his 0.699 strokes gained to putting (fourth overall) makes him a viable DFS candidate.
