While Denny Hamlin only finished seventh in Sunday's Southern 500, he ran better than that, as Kyle Larson and Chase Briscoe were probably the only drivers who outran him in the race. Although Hamlin only led when he went extra long on green-flag pit cycles, his advanced numbers were generally quite good, as he ranked fourth in driver rating, tied for third in average running position, ranked sixth in place differential, and had the most fastest laps. Hamlin was one of the drivers who relatively got lost in the shuffle with the wild late-race strategy calls, but his finish did give him some momentum going into the playoffs after his Daytona crash and 75-point penalty.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller
