The one thing he has not done, however, is win the Cup Series championship. Always the polarizing figure, Hamlin's lack of championship success has not gone unnoticed, as this is the first thing his detractors like to point to when criticizing the future Hall of Famer. Despite having multiple wins in five consecutive seasons, there is a perception that the JGR star is a choke artist; a driver that is incapable of winning the big one. This is the burden the 20-year Cup veteran will carry into 2024, a season that sees him among the favorites to finally win the title.
