Dellin Betances Strikes Out Two In Eighth Inning On Sunday
6 years agoNew York Yankees reliever Dellin Betances came into the eighth inning of Sunday's game against the Boston Red Sox and successfully preserved a 4-1 Yankees lead. That lead was short-lived, though, a the Red Sox tied it up in the ninth. Nonetheless, Betances has been lights out in his last seven appearances, totaling 12 strikeouts in a little over six innings pitched. It's also worth noting that it seems like manager Aaron Boone is keeping Betances in the setup man role as opposed to the newly-acquired lefty Zach Britton. As he's shown during the Yankees' horrid stretch the last few games, Boone will mix and match with his bullpen though, so expect Britton to get his share of chances in the eighth inning. That said, Betances has a clear advantage in strikeout potential over Britton, so for now he's the pitcher with more value in deep, multiple-reliever leagues.
