David Robertson Hopeful To Return Before August
5 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies reliever David Robertson threw a 19-pitch bullpen session Wednesday as he recovers from a Grade 1 flexor strain in his elbow. Robertson hopes to start throwing his curveball Friday, followed by another bullpen Sunday before beginning a rehab assignment following the All-Star Break. Barring any setbacks, the 34-year-old should return before August, likely in a seventh or eighth inning role to start with until he builds up better stamina. Robertson has been limited to just 6.2 innings on the year since landing on the shelf in mid-April after signing a two-year deal in the offseason. Hector Neris has filled in nicely in his absence as the team's closer and should remain holding down the ninth for the foreseeable future. Robertson doesn't have any immediate fantasy value in anything other than leagues that value holds.
