David Montgomery, Jahmyr Gibbs Targeted Often In Practice
1 year agoDetroit Lions running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs were both reportedly targeted in the passing game "quite often" in Monday's practice, according to Colton Pouncey of the Athletic. "Both Gibbs and Montgomery were involved out of the backfield," Pouncy wrote. "And both looked fluid and comfortable as receivers." Gibbs was drafted No. 12 overall mostly due to his pass-catching skill set, so there's no surprise he's involved early on. However, Montgomery getting plenty of receiving work could mightily elevate his 2023 fantasy outlook. The 26-year-old caught 155 passes in four seasons with the Chicago Bears, so he should be viewed as a real threat out of the backfield. Both Gibbs and Montgomery are expected to have plenty of value this season and both finishing as high-end RB2s wouldn't be a surprise.
