Danny Mendick, Adam Engel Go On Injured List
3 years agoThe Chicago White Sox placed infielder Danny Mendick (knee) and outfielder Adam Engel (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list on Thursday. Mendick will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his right knee, while Engel is sidelined with a strained right hamstring. The White Sox selected infielder Lenyn Sosa's contract from Double-A Birmingham and moved outfielder Eloy Jimenez (hamstring) to the 60-day IL in corresponding moves. Mendick injured his knee during a collision on Wednesday, and it's a shame since he was hitting .289/.343/.443 with three home runs and 15 RBI in 31 games for the Pale Hose. With Engel sidelined, both AJ Pollock and Adam Haseley should see more playing time moving forward.

Adam Engel Joins Padres On One-Year Deal
2 years agoThe San Diego Padres signed free-agent outfielder Adam Engel to an undisclosed one-year deal on Friday. Engel became a free agent this offseason when the Chicago White Sox did not tender him a new deal for 2023. The 31-year-old glove-first player comes to San Diego after six years with the Pale Hose in which he slashed an underwhelming .225/.280/.350 with a .631 OPS, 30 home runs 123 RBI, 173 runs scored and 47 stolen bases in 523 games. In 119 games in 2022, Engel hit .224 with two homers, 17 RBI, 32 runs scored and 12 stolen bases in 260 plate appearances. Engel can play all three outfield positions and will give the Friars some much-needed outfield depth, although he's unlikely to move the needle at all in fantasy as a bench player.

Liam Hendriks, Adam Engel Return From Injured List
3 years agoThe Chicago White Sox reinstated closer Liam Hendriks (forearm) and outfielder Adam Engel (hamstring) from the injured list on Monday and optioned outfielder Adam Haseley and right-hander Jimmy Lambert to Triple-A Charlotte in corresponding moves. Hendriks has a 2.81 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with 16 saves and 37 strikeouts in 25 2/3 relief innings this year, and he should immediately reclaim the closing role for the White Sox, so fantasy managers need to get him back into their lineups right away. Kendall Graveman recorded two saves for the team over the weekend, and he'll move back to a high-leverage setup role. Engel is likely to fill a reserve role in Chicago's outfield. He's starting the game on Monday against the Minnesota Twins on the bench.

Adam Engel Suffers Hamstring Injury On Wednesday
3 years agoChicago White Sox outfielder Adam Engel (hamstring) was removed from Wednesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays due to right hamstring soreness. AJ Pollock came on in the fourth inning to replace Engel in the field. Engel struck out in his only at-bat of the game before being lifted. According to the team, Engel is in the midst of being further evaluated. The 30-year-old has seen a good amount of playing time this year due to the team's many injuries. Over 55 games, he's slashing .241/.299/.352 with one home run, nine stolen bases, 10 RBI and 18 runs.

Adam Engel Had Surgery For Torn Labrum
3 years agoChicago White Sox outfielder Adam Engel (shoulder) said that he had offseason surgery on his left shoulder to fix a torn labrum, which required five suture anchors to be used. The recovery from surgery allowed him to rest his legs after he dealt with hamstring issues last year as well, and he felt that his ability to run at top speed returned quickly. Engel's conditioning program this winter was heavily focused on strengthening his hamstrings. The 30-year-old missed over a month in the second half of the season and wasn't fully healthy when he return. He finished with seven home runs, 18 RBI and seven steals in 123 at-bats to go with a .252/.336/.496 slash line. Engel should fill a part-time role in Chicago's outfield in 2022 and will only be attractive in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.
