Cubs Sign Edwin Rios To One-Year Deal
2 years agoThe Chicago Cubs signed free-agent corner infielder Edwin Rios to a one-year, $1 million deal on Friday. In a corresponding move, the team placed relief pitcher Ethan Roberts (elbow) on the 60-day injured list. Rios became a free agent in 2022 when he was non-tendered by the Los Angeles Dodgers after hitting .244 with seven home runs, 17 RBI and 12 runs scored in a career-high 92 plate appearances and 27 games in his fourth MLB season last year. There's a bit of pop in the 28-year-old's bat from the left side of the plate, but he'll strictly be corner infield depth for the Cubs this year and will likely start in the minors. In four seasons with LA, Rios has a .219/.299/.492 slash line with a .791 OPS, 20 long balls, 43 RBI and 39 runs scored in 112 games played.
