Cubs Pick Up Cole Hamels' Option
6 years agoThe Chicago Cubs picked up starting pitcher Cole Hamels' $20 million option on Friday, according to sources. Chicago was hoping to instead sign him to a short-term contract extension, but that didn't work out. The left-hander struggled in the first half with Texas but was rejuvenated in the move to Wrigley, going 4-3 with a 2.36 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 8.7 K/9 in 12 starts for the Cubs. Staying in the National League will be good for the aging pitcher, but don't expect him to be as good in 2019 as he was in the second half with Chicago.
