Cubs Interested In Zach Britton, Brad Hand
6 years agoThe Chicago Cubs are among eight teams that are talking to the Baltimore Orioles about closer Zach Britton, according to an industry source. They are also interested in San Diego Padres closer Brad Hand, though Hand will cost much more than Britton, who will be a free agent after this season. Hand is signed through 2020 with a $10 million option for 2021. Britton got off to a rough start after returning from Achilles surgery, but he hasn't allowed a run over his last seven outings while showing an increase in velocity. The Orioles would prefer to trade Britton and shortstop Manny Machado in separate deals to increase their return. The Cubs already have Brandon Morrow as their closer, so it's uncertain what role Britton or Hand would fill in Chicago if they were traded, but they'd almost certainly lose fantasy value.
