5 years agoThe Chicago Cubs are now showing interest in free-agent closer Craig Kimbrel, according to major league sources. The continued absence of super-utility man Ben Zobrist, who is on the restricted list while going through a divorce, might be creating the financial flexibility that would allow them to pursue Kimbrel. The Cubs have used Steve Cishek and others with Pedro Strop (hamstring) on the injured list, and Brandon Morrow (elbow) hasn't pitched since the first half of last season, so Kimbrel would surely be a huge upgrade. The All-Star closer will likely sign shortly after the draft since he won't have draft-pick compensation tied to him any longer.
