Craig Kimbrel Will Be The Most Coveted Trade Target
3 years agoWith the Chicago Cubs losing their 10th straight game on Monday, it's looking more likely that they'll be sellers at the trade deadline, and closer Craig Kimbrel is expected to be the most coveted player on the trade market. The Boston Red Sox could be a natural landing spot for Kimbrel, who played in Beantown from 2016-18, but one high-ranking MLB executive speculated that Kimbrel's destination will come down to either the Houston Astros or Oakland Athletics. The hard-throwing right-hander and eight-time All-Star has a 0.59 ERA with 53 strikeouts and 10 walks in 30 2/3 innings in a bounce-back season. He has a $16 million club option in 2022. Ryan Pressly in Houston and Lou Trivino/Jake Diekman in Oakland would be the big losers if Kimbrel landed with either of those teams.
