Corbin Burnes, Freddy Peralta Will Provide Rotation Depth
5 years agoMilwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell said that the plan is to enter spring training treating pitchers Corbin Burnes and Freddy Peralta as starting pitchers as protection for the team's rotation. The hard-throwing Burnes made only four starts in 2019, and he was awful overall with an 8.82 ERA and 1.84 WHIP, although he did fan 70 hitters in 49 innings pitched. He had a 10.70 ERA as a starter and allowed 11 home runs in 17 2/3 innings. Peralta had a 7.07 ERA and 1.63 WHIP while striking out 46 and walking 11 in 35 2/3 frames. Both offer strikeout appeal in starting roles, but they're probably more effective in relief in the big picture and wouldn't be anything more than DFS matchup streamers if they make starts at any point in the 2020 season.
