The Boston Red Sox have recalled right-hander Connor Seabold from Triple-A. He will be the team's starting pitcher for Sunday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Seabold made his first MLB start of 2022 this past Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays. He was absolutely shelled in the outing, pitching 4 2/3 innings and allowing nine hits (including three homers), one walk and seven earned runs. On the bright side, he managed to record seven strikeouts. The 26-year-old has pitched well at Triple-A this year, going 5-1 with a 2.09 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP. We'll see if he can have better luck in a more favorable matchup against the Cubs on Sunday.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBaller

According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, the Tampa Bay Rays are inviting catcher Tres Barrera and right-handed pitcher Connor Seabold to spring training as non-roster players. Barrera spent time with the Nationals and Cardinals. Across 57 MLB contests, the backstop posted a .228/.313/.310 slash line with two home runs. In 169 contests at Triple-A, the Texas product posted a .222/.315/.351 line with 19 doubles and 15 long balls. Seabold has spent time with the Boston Red Sox and Colorado Rockies. Through 108 2/3 MLB frames, the right-hander has held an 8.12 ERA with a 1.77 WHIP. However, across 172 innings at Triple-A, the 29-year-old has held a 4.13 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP. Fantasy managers should expect both players to open the season with Triple-A Durham.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

The Colorado Rockies released right-hander Connor Seabold on Wednesday to clear a spot for a potential Rule 5 draft pick, according to a source. Seabold hasn't been any good in his three years in the majors, and that continued in 2023, as he had a rough 7.52 ERA (5.75 FIP) and 1.65 WHIP while walking 28 and striking out 67 in 87 1/3 innings over 27 appearances (13 starts) for the Rockies. The 27-year-old will hope to latch on with another team on a minor-league deal. He has an 8.12 ERA and 1.77 WHIP with 86 strikeouts in 108 2/3 career innings at the big-league level since 2021 in 33 outings (19 starts) for the Rockies and Boston Red Sox.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Colorado Rockies have acquired right-handed pitcher Connor Seabold from the Boston Red Sox. Per a tweet from MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Tuesday, Colorado is sending a player to be named or cash considerations to the American League East club. Seabold made five starts for Boston during the 2022 season, throwing 18.1 innings in the process while logging an 11.29 ERA, a 6.39 FIP, and 19 strikeouts compared to eight walks allowed. He'll give the Rockies some additional rotation depth heading into next season. As of now, Colorado's starting pitching options include Kyle Freeland, German Marquez, Antonio Senzatela, Austin Gomber, Peter Lambert, Jose Urena, and Ryan Feltner.--Ben Rosener - RotoBaller

The Boston Red Sox designated right-hander Connor Seabold for assignment on Thursday to make room on the 40-man roster for the recently signed Corey Kluber. In his second major-league season with the Red Sox in 2022, Seabold had a rough go of it, allowing 24 runs (23 earned) on 35 hits (five home runs) while walking eight and striking out 19 in 18 1/3 innings pitched over five starts. The 26-year-old has a 10.55 ERA (6.82 FIP), 2.25 WHIP and 19 strikeouts in his six major-league starts with Boston, but he's been much better in the minor leagues. In his last two seasons at Triple-A Worcester, Seabold has fanned 141 batters over 140 2/3 innings.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
