Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon said that starting pitcher Cole Hamels (oblique), who left his start early on Friday, will go on the injured list with a left oblique strain. The team will know more after Hamels undergoes an MRI exam on Saturday. There's a good chance outfielder Carlos Gonzalez is sent out to make room for two pitchers. Hamels, 35, allowed two hits and a run while walking one and fanning one in his inning of work against the Reds. He had been fantastic this year (2.98 ERA, six wins, 8.76 K/9 in 99 2/3 innings), so this is a big loss for the Cubbies and fantasy owners. Keep him stashed everywhere, but oblique injuries for pitchers can often sideline them up to a month or more. Rookie Adbert Alzolay has a better shot to stay in the rotation now when Kyle Hendricks returns.--Keith Hernandez
