Cole Hamels Heading To Injured List
Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon said that starting pitcher Cole Hamels (oblique), who left his start early on Friday, will go on the injured list with a left oblique strain. The team will know more after Hamels undergoes an MRI exam on Saturday. There's a good chance outfielder Carlos Gonzalez is sent out to make room for two pitchers. Hamels, 35, allowed two hits and a run while walking one and fanning one in his inning of work against the Reds. He had been fantastic this year (2.98 ERA, six wins, 8.76 K/9 in 99 2/3 innings), so this is a big loss for the Cubbies and fantasy owners. Keep him stashed everywhere, but oblique injuries for pitchers can often sideline them up to a month or more. Rookie Adbert Alzolay has a better shot to stay in the rotation now when Kyle Hendricks returns.
