Cody Bellinger Playing Centerfield Wednesday, Matt Kemp Sits
7 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers first baseman and outfielder Cody Bellinger is playing centerfield on Wednesday versus the Marlins and batting fifth. Bellinger is shifting Joc Pederson over to left and Chris Taylor, who sometimes plays center, is firmly entrenched as the Dodgers' everyday shortstop. Matt Kemp is inexplicably sitting. He's dominated lefties and the Dodgers are facing left-hander Caleb Smith. Playing center field is indicative of the faith Dave Roberts has in Bellinger's athleticism. But owners should hope that the placement won't become a regular habit. Bellinger is less likely to be hurt playing first base. He also has a .623 OPS against lefties, so who knows what Roberts is thinking. Bellinger does have a small four-game hitting streak with two home runs, so hopefully he can keep the momentum going.
