Clayton Tune Leading Backup Quarterback Competition
7 months agoArizona Cardinals quarterback Clayton Tune will start the team's preseason game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, indicating that he has a lead over Desmond Ridder for the backup QB spot behind Kyler Murray. Ridder was dealt to the Cardinals in March in exchange for wide receiver Rondale Moore, but he's fighting for a roster spot if the team does not keep three quarterbacks. Tune, a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, threw for 62 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions in one start last year. Fantasy managers in Superflex or two-QB leagues should monitor the backup competitions around the league, as any QB2 could become a starter and enter the fantasy football radar if injuries take place.

Clayton Tune Throws Pick-Six In Preseason Finale
7 months agoArizona Cardinals quarterback Clayton Tune went 12-for-18 for 119 passing yards and an interception in Sunday's preseason loss to the Denver Broncos. Tune drew the start and was swapped out for Desmond Ridder at halftime. Unfortunately, Ridder was forced to exit with a head injury late in the fourth quarter, requiring Tune to resume signal-calling duties. On Tune's first play back, he gave up an interception that linebacker Levelle Bailey returned 94-yards for a touchdown. Assuming Tune makes the final roster on Tuesday, he will merely be Kyler Murray's backup and can be dismissed in fantasy drafts.

Clayton Tune Starts, Scores Rushing Touchdown In Loss
8 months agoArizona Cardinals quarterback Clayton Tune got the start on Saturday in their contest with the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. Tune was 8-of-10 passing for 79 yards, while adding two rushes for 15 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown was a 12-yard scamper after being flushed out of the pocket and rolling right to beat a defender to the corner of the end zone for the score. Tune is battling former Atlanta Falcon Desmond Ridder for the QB2 job behind Kyler Murray and Tune may just have the leg up on that job after tonight. You can leave Tune undrafted in fantasy, however, as Tune would only have fantasy value if Murray misses any time during the season.

Clayton Tune A Risky Play If Kyler Murray Misses Time
1 year agoAs Week 17 approaches, Arizona Cardinals backup quarterback Clayton Tune looms as a potential starter if Kyler Murray is sidelined due to illness. However, facing a formidable Eagles defense, Tune doesn't project as a reliable fantasy option. For fantasy managers deliberating whether to wait for Murray's status or pivot to Tune, the decision hinges on the urgency of securing a starting quarterback. If the waiver wire offers more favorable options, the risk of Tune's uncertain performance may outweigh the potential reward. With a challenging matchup against the Eagles defense, fantasy managers may be better served exploring alternative quarterback options for Week 17. With Murray expected to play, fantasy managers rostering him should keep a close eye on his health updates leading up to kickoff to make an informed decision regarding Tune's fantasy viability.

Clayton Tune Unimpressive In Defeat
1 year agoArizona Cardinals rookie quarterback Clayton Tune completed 11 of 20 passes for 58 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in the Cardinals' 27-0 loss to the Cleveland Browns. He also rushed five times for 28 yards and lost a fumble. The first-year signal caller had a tough assignment in his initial NFL start, going up against one of the top defenses in the league. The results were about what was to be expected, as Tune looked out of sorts and uncomfortable all day. This will likely be a one-and-done scenario for the rookie unless the Cardinals give Kyler Murray (knee) one more week to get healthy. Moving forward, Tune should be avoided in all formats.
