Clay Holmes Blows Save, Takes Loss Monday
2 years agoNew York Yankees closer Clay Holmes blew his second save of the season and took the loss in Monday's 3-2 game against the Guardians. Holmes entered the game in the top of the ninth inning up by three with one out and a runner on first. The first batter he faced reached on a fielding error made by Holmes. He then allowed a single to load the bases followed by a two-run single to tie the game before being removed without recording an out. One of his runners ended up scoring afterward, saddling him with the loss. The 30-year-old has been inconsistent this season, converting four of six save opportunities with a 3.72 ERA, 11.17 K/9 rate, and 4.66 BB/9 rate. He remains the team's go-to closer, but fantasy managers should keep an eye out if Holmes continues to turn in outings like this.
