4 years agoRight-handed reliever Heath Hembree has joined the Cincinnati Reds on a Minor League contract that includes an invitation to the team's big league camp. Hembree appeared in seven Cactus League contests with Cleveland and allowed just one earned run over 6 1/3 innings, striking out eight batters. Hembree scuffled during the abbreviated 2020 season, posting a 9.00 ERA across 19 frames between Boston and Philadelphia. Having been a consistent contributor for the Red Sox relief corps from 2015-19 (3.54 ERA, 9.6 K/9), Hembree could factor into the bullpen mix for the Reds due to recent injuries. Amir Garrett and Lucas Sims remain Cincy's likeliest closer candidates, but Hembree could snag a relief spot with a strong close to camp.--Jesse Borek
