Christopher Bell Recovers For Sixth-Place Finish After Richmond Penalty
4 months agoIn Sunday's Cook Out 400, Joe Gibbs Racing driver Christopher Bell finished sixth after a hard-fought day. Starting from the fifth position, Bell proved quickly that he had one of the best cars in the field, as during the first stage, he climbed to the lead and won it. In the second stage, Bell continued to be one of the strongest cars since he ran in the top five through the entire stage, outside of green-flag pit stops. Bell ended Stage 2 in second behind Daniel Suarez, who took advantage of option tires to gain track position ahead of Bell. In the final stage, Bell received a speeding penalty during green-flag pit stops, sending him off of the lead lap. The No. 20 Toyota driver took the entire stage to rally back to the lead lap, thanks to option tires and pit strategy, and made it to finish sixth, his 13th top-10 finish of the season. As the Cup Series heads to Michigan next, Bell will look to score his first-ever top-10 finish at the site.
