Christopher Bell Earns Surprise Top-10 Finish After Mid-Race Crash
5 months agoAlthough Christopher Bell was mostly a non-factor at Sonoma, he earned a quiet 10th-place finish and suffered less bad luck than any of his Joe Gibbs Racing teammates. This is not to say he had no bad luck, though, as Josh Berry spun him out on Lap 35 while trying to recover from sliding off the track. This triggered a domino effect that took out five other cars, but Bell was not significantly damaged. He worked his way up to 11th in the closing laps before being gifted a top-10 finish on the last lap when Kyle Busch got spun out by Ross Chastain, and Martin Truex Jr. ran out of fuel. This partially makes up for Bell's bad luck last week at Gateway and continues his current run of consistency, which has caused him to rise from 17th to ninth in the points standings in the last five races.
