Chris Young Sharp, Luis Perdomo Struggles Against Royals
7 years agoTwo San Diego Padres competing for the starting rotation made their cases on Tuesday against the Royals. Pitcher Chris Young struck out four and allowed one earned run in three innings. Meanwhile, starter Luis Perdomo struggled in three innings, allowing two earned runs, but recorded five strikeouts. Young, a non-roster invitee, is a 38-year-old veteran with both starting and relief experience. His best seasons date back to 2006-2007 with the Padres, but he has endured injuries and performance issues around the majors in recent years. Perdomo, 24, possesses raw talent and a strong slider, but has scuffled in 49 career starts (5.16 ERA, 4.13 xFIP, 1.55 WHIP, 2.01 K/BB). With Dinelson Lamet the front-runner for the third starting position behind Clayton Richard and Bryan Mitchell, Young and Perdomo are locked in a battle with four other pitchers for the final two rotation slots.
