Chris Owings Activated From The 60-Day Injured List
4 years agoColorado Rockies infielder Chris Owings (thumb) was activated from the 60-day injured list on Tuesday. He's been sidelined since the beginning of April with a sprained thumb. The 29-year-old hit .533 (8-for-15) with six extra-base hits, three RBI, and two stolen bases over seven games before being placed on the injured list. The Rockies infielder is available off the bench for Tuesday's game against the Mariners. Owings is expected to serve in a utility role for the Rockies and is mainly an option in deep-league formats. Joe Harvey was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Pirates Sign Chris Owings To Minor-League Deal
2 years agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates signed free-agent infielder Chris Owings to a minor-league deal on Thursday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training. Owings, a veteran of 10 major-league seasons, spent the 2022 season with the Baltimore Orioles but hit just .107/.254/.143 with no homers, six runs scored and a stolen base in 26 games played. He didn't fare a whole lot better in the minors for the New York Yankees or in an independent league after he was released by Baltimore. Owings hasn't played over 100 games in a single major-league season since 2018 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and he'll strictly serve as veteran infield depth with the rebuilding Pirates.

Chris Owings Designated For Assignment
3 years agoThe Baltimore Orioles designated infielder Chris Owings for assignment on Wednesday. In a corresponding move, the team activated right-handed pitcher Austin Voth, who was claimed off waivers from the Washington Nationals on Tuesday. Owings hasn't been able to get anything going at the plate this year. Over 26 games, he's slashed .107/.254/.143 with only two extra-base hits (both doubles). We'll see if another team is willing to take a shot on the 30-year-old veteran, who has a career .239 batting average to go along with 37 home runs over 710 games.
