Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt limped his way to another mediocre final line in Friday's 5-4 loss to the A's. He allowed four earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four across five innings. Bassitt logged a no-decision Friday, keeping his record at 7-5 for the season. The 34-year-old righty had a chance to get back on track when the 30th-ranked offense against right-handed pitchers came to the Rogers Centre, but three singles and a homer resulted in a quick 3-0 deficit in the top of the first. Bassitt settled down for a bit but eventually allowed two more base runners and a sacrifice fly in his fifth and final frame, leaving with the score knotted at 4-4. The lackluster start marks his third short outing in a row. The absence of strikeouts, elevated walk rate, and tendency to allow crooked numbers make Bassitt tough to trust as a fantasy asset outside of deep leagues, even in the easiest of matchups. Bassitt owns a 4.32 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and an 81: 32 K: BB across 93 2/3 innings in 2023. Another home start is on deck for the veteran right-hander, but things get more difficult as he's slated to take on the red-hot San Francisco Giants on Wednesday.--Tommy Bell
