Chris Bassitt Dealing With Sinus Issue
Chris Bassitt (illness) is dealing with a cold/sinus issue, according to Mets manager Buck Showalter. The skipper seems confident that Bassitt will be good to make his next start on Sunday, but if he's unable to go, then David Peterson would be on the mound instead. After a strong start to the year, Bassitt has been hit hard over his last two outings. Most recently, facing the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, he gave up eight earned runs over 4 1/3 innings. The 33-year-old has a 3.91 ERA and a 1/21 WHIP on the year.

Chris Bassitt Strikes Out Five In No-Decision
Chris Bassitt allowed one run on five hits in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox. The veteran struck out five batters and walked one over 5.2 innings of work -- narrowly missing his third quality start. Bassitt pitched well again, stifling the Red Sox through five innings. He ran into trouble in the sixth, though, walking outfielder Jaren Durran, who would eventually steal second and score on an Alex Bregman single. The right-hander has been excellent thus far in 2025 -- holding a sterling 0.98 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with a 21:3 K:BB ratio in 18.1 innings. Statcast thinks he may be over-performing his metrics, but Bassitt has started another season off on the right foot. If it holds, the right-hander's 28.8% strikeout rate would be the highest of his career.

Chris Bassitt Strikes Out Nine In No-Decision
Chris Bassitt tossed 6 2/3 shutout innings on Saturday, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out nine batters, but he did not factor into the decision in the 3-2 loss to the Mets. Through two turns in the rotation -- one at home and one on the road -- the veteran has looked good, posting a 0.71 ERA (0.89 FIP), 1.11 WHIP, and a 27.5 percent K-BB% (2:16 BB:K). Coming off a year in which he posted the worst full-season ERA and WHIP of his career, this was not to be expected, but with a solid career ERA of 3.56 and 1.23 WHIP, he's always been fairly good. However, looking closer, from April 9 to June 29 last season, the righty posted a 2.76 ERA before fading to a 5.38 ERA from July on. Fantasy managers may want to consider packaging Bassitt up in a trade, as there's sure to be some regression coming. The former All-Star will take on the Red Sox on the road in his next start on Thursday.

Chris Bassitt Excellent On Sunday Against The Orioles
Chris Bassitt led the Blue Jays to a 3-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday to help salvage a split in their four-game series. He recorded his first win of the season, allowed eight hits, one run, and two walks, and had seven strikeouts over six innings of work. Bassitt was able to scatter those eight hits and get out of traffic quite often on the afternoon against a solid lineup. Bassitt will look to keep it rolling next weekend, when he is tentatively lined up to face the New York Mets on the road. Fantasy managers can continue to rely on Bassitt until proven otherwise, as he is a veteran pitcher who knows how to pitch in the big leagues.

Chris Bassitt Won't Pitch In Season Finale
Chris Bassitt will no longer take the hill for the regular-season finale this Sunday at Rogers Centre versus the visiting Miami Marlins, according to manager John Schneider. The Blue Jays are now listing Sunday as a "TBA" day. Toronto hasn't named a replacement for Bassitt or given a reason for why the 35-year-old veteran won't take the ball to close out the season. Bassitt won a league-high 16 games for Toronto in his first year with the club in 2023 but wasn't nearly as successful this year, going 10-14 with a 4.16 ERA (4.08 FIP), a 1.46 WHIP and a 168:70 K:BB in 171 innings over his 31 starts. His ERA was his highest since 2016, when he pitched for the Oakland Athletics, and he also led the league with 16 hit-by-pitches. It's possible that he's dealing with a minor injury and the Blue Jays didn't want to risk anything.
