Chris Archer Dominant Monday Versus Oakland
6 years agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Chris Archer shut down the Athletics on Monday. He went six scoreless innings, striking out seven. Some expressed surprise that he did not come out for the seventh inning after only 88 pitches, but he did not and ended up with a no-decision. This effort follows up his previous outing where he went six innings against the Red Sox, allowing only one run. Over his past three outings, he has gone 18 2/3 innings, allowing only one run with 18 strikeouts. He has pitched over 200 innings each of the past three seasons and has struck out at least 233 batters in each season. The troubling part is that his ERA has been just over 4.00 the last two seasons and his win-loss record has been 19-31 those two seasons. Speaking of ERA, his 2018 number sits at 4.29, though it had been at 5.64 before his last three outings. He has the upside to be a strong fantasy asset, but the weakness of the Rays will impact his winning potential.
