Chase Petty Struggling At Double-A
4 months agoCincinnati Reds starting pitching prospect Chase Petty has struggled through the first half of the summer in his first extended look at Double-A ball. The former 26th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft tossed eight frames at Double-A last season and did not allow a run with a 0.75 WHIP. This season, in 75 ⅓ innings, the right-hander has posted a disappointing 5.26 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, and a 36:71 BB:K ratio. He spent the majority of last season with High-A and held a stellar 1.95 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across 60 frames. While Petty has logged six starts where he allowed one run or less, he has also surrendered four or more runs seven times. Petty is considered the sixth-best prospect in the Reds system on MLB.com and is worth following as he may reach Triple-A this summer if he finds his footing at Double-A.
