Chase Elliott Salvages A Top-10 Finish At Kansas After Starting From The Rear
1 month agoChase Elliott battled through adversity and finished Sunday's Hollywood Casino 400 in the ninth position. After starting from the rear of the field due to an engine change and poor qualifying effort, Elliott's tough day began as he touched the wall on the race's first lap in the first stage. After this, Elliott would ascend through the field quietly, making it to 19th at the end of the first stage. In the second stage, he would continue quietly gaining ground and staying out of trouble even through multiple cautions. Elliott ended the stage in ninth and earned two stage points. In the final stage, Elliott avoided further trouble despite losing some track position because the field was shuffled around through multiple cautions. By the race's final restart, Elliott worked back into the Top 10 and salvaged a ninth-place finish, obtaining his 12th career top-10 finish in his 18th start at Kansas. As the Cup Series next heads to Talladega, where he has two wins and eight top-10 finishes in 17 starts, Elliott holds one of the final two playoff spots by a narrow margin of four points.
