Chase Briscoe Seeking Back-to-Back Wins At Phoenix
2 years agoChase Briscoe is the defending winner of the spring Cup Series race at Phoenix Raceway, but he'll have some work to do in Sunday's United Rentals 500(k) if he's going to go back-to-back in the desert. Briscoe qualified back in 24th for this weekend's race, which was a bit of a surprise considering he was the 5th-fastest overall during the practice session here on Friday. There's still optimism for Briscoe, though. His #14 Ford ranked 7th-fastest in ten-lap average during that session, and although Briscoe didn't make a run longer than that in practice, his teammates (Kevin Harvick and Aric Almirola) showed very strong long-run speed. All of the Stewart-Haas Fords were loose during qualifying on Saturday, which is a big reason why they're all starting further back than expected. As the say goes, though, it's not where you start, it's where you finish.
