Carson Hocevar's Strong Start Ends Early
2 years agoEvery racecar driver dreams to make it to the NASCAR Cup Series one day. That day for Carson Hocevar was Sunday, June 4, 2023. He was behind the wheel of the No. 7 Spire Chevrolet, filling in for Corey LaJoie. LaJoie was driving the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet for the suspended Chase Elliott. Hocevar qualified 26th for the Enjoy Illinois 300, but he was not going to spoil his debut by staying there. After feeling out the car for Stage 1 by finishing where he started, he managed to move up in Stage 2. He was running as high as 16th when trouble ensued just before Lap 91. He came on the radio to say the brakes were going out, and shortly after coming into Turn 1, the brake rotor broke. He managed to drive the car into the wall to avoid additional damage. It was not the ending he was hoping for, but he was grateful for the experience and should get another chance in the future.

Carson Hocevar Not Happy With Car But Has Speed At Martinsville
1 week agoCarson Hocevar is an interesting fantasy option at Martinsville Speedway this weekend. The No. 77 Chevrolet was fast on the time charts during practice on Saturday, but when interviewed about his car following practice, you could tell that Hocevar wasn't too happy with his car on the long run. However, Hocevar ranked fourth-fastest in 30-lap average, so the car can't be that bad. As far as track history goes, Hocevar posted a career-best finish of 17th here at Martinsville last season, and the Spire Motorsports teams seem to have a bit more speed this year. At $6,600 on DraftKings, Hocevar makes for an interesting DFS option on Sunday. He's cheap enough to take a risk on, and his 29th-place starting spot gives him great Place Differential upside. Martinsville is a track where a driver needs to be aggressive to make his way through the field, and Hocevar is one of the most aggressive in the Cup Series garage. Even though the Spire Motorsports driver doesn't seem too happy with his car this weekend, it's hard to ignore that long-run speed. Hocevar is a nice low-dollar DFS option this weekend.

Carson Hocevar Is An Underrated DFS Option For Homestead Lineups
2 weeks agoCarson Hocevar will start 15th for Sunday's Straight Talk Wireless 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The second-year Cup driver is the top qualifier of the three Spire Motorsports entries for this week's race. In his only previous start at Homestead, Hocevar collected positive Place Differential and finished ninth. In five races completed so far this year, Hocevar has two finishes of 13th or better but also two DNFs. In practice for Sunday's race, Hocevar ranked fifth in overall lap averages and displayed top-10 speeds in all other categories. Based on his equipment and practice speeds, Hocevar may be a sleeper to score a top-10 finish, making him a favorable and underrated DFS option for his salary ($7,500) for all formats.

Carson Hocevar Showcases Speed And Can Be Worth Rostering At Las Vegas
3 weeks agoSpire Motorsports driver Carson Hocevar will start 25th after qualifying for this week's Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Hocevar's starting position for this week matches the lowest of his Cup career at Las Vegas. In three previous races at the site, Hocevar has just one top-15 finish and never collected positive Place Differential in his Cup career at the site. With four races completed so far this season, Hocevar has two top-20 finishes and two DNFs. In practice, Hocevar ranked third in overall lap averages while displaying top-10 speeds in all other categories. Hocevar's upside, practice speeds, and 2025 performance so far all make him worth rostering in all formats this week at Las Vegas.

Carson Hocevar Is Not An Ideal Driver To Add To Phoenix DFS Lineups
1 month agoSpire Motorsports driver Carson Hocevar will start third for this week's Shriners Children's 500 at Phoenix Raceway. This marks the second week in a row where Hocevar has a top-5 starting position, and he is the top qualifier of all three Spire entries this week. In three Cup starts at Phoenix, Hocevar has finished no better than 15th and only gained positive Place Differential once. The No. 77 Chevrolet driver also has two top-10 finishes in five starts at the Arizona track in the Truck Series. In practice, Hocevar ranked 21st in overall lap averages while ranking as high as 11th in 25 consecutive lap averages. Hocevar's track history has not been greatest at Phoenix, and his practice speeds indicate that he might fall out of the top 10. Despite his solid salary below $7K on DraftKings, Hocevar is too much of a DFS risk to lose upside while also not having an ideal track history, making him a driver to fade this week.
