Carson Hocevar earned his first pole position for Sunday's Würth 400 at Texas in his 56th career start. Given the speed he has shown and Spire Motorsports' improved qualifying performance, a pole was probably inevitable at some point, but how will he do in the race? Hocevar earned his first top-10 finish in the Cup Series in last year's race and he has already won here in the Craftsman Truck Series (albeit after roughing Nick Sanchez up after Sanchez had led more than the regulation distance). Hocevar's crew chief Luke Lambert also won here in the Xfinity Series with Noah Gragson, so maybe this shouldn't have come as so much of a surprise. Hocevar proved at Bristol that he was good at maintaining his position in a race where it was nearly impossible to pass, but his botched pit stop at Bristol points to what might hold him back here as well. Hocevar is probably an inevitable winner ,and it could happen on Sunday, but more likely he'll lose too many positions to be valuable for DFS.

Although Carson Hocevar only qualified 28th at Talladega yesterday and was genuinely rather slow in most of last year's drafting track races, he earned his best career finish (a second) in the previous drafting race at Atlanta despite starting 26th, which means he seems to be driving less conservatively now and is more willing to fight for the lead. Coming off of last week's race at Bristol (which was one of Hocevar's fastest races ever), he clearly has positive momentum entering this race. Considering he has the potential to gain many positions, is available relatively cheaply at $6,900, and has a relatively weak surface record on this track type, he's a very strong pick for DFS if you think he is more likely to replicate this year's Atlanta run than last year's lackluster runs.

Carson Hocevar of Spire Motorsports will start ninth for Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Hocevar is the top qualifier of the three Spire entries in this week's Cup race at Bristol. In three Cup starts at the site, Hocevar has two top-20 finishes, a best finish of 11th, and scored positive place differential twice. After eight races so far in the 2025 season, Hocevar has three top-20 finishes, with only one inside the top 10. In practice, Hocevar ranked eighth in overall lap averages and displayed top-10 speeds in the five and 10 consecutive lap average categories. Due to his low upside, it is difficult to recommend Hocevar for any lineup outside of tournament lineups, especially when his overall 2025 performance so far has been lackluster.

Although Carson Hocevar failed to replicate his second-place starting position from last year's Southern 500, his 13th-place starting position on Sunday is still pretty solid, and the speed he had last year suggests there is a chance he will have speed on Sunday, even though he fell off quickly and failed to score any stage points in that race. Although Darlington is a finesse track and Hocevar is not a finesse driver, he usually does get away with his overdriving and has had very impressive runs, especially in the Craftsman Truck Series, where he has a better average finish than he's ever had on any track he's competed at more than once. However, the fact that he qualified 13th raises expectations. Although he'll likely someday lead at the track, it probably won't be until he lands a faster car, and he'll likely finish worse than he starts on Sunday.
