Carlos Martinez Struggles In Tuesday's Start
4 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Carlos Martinez struggled in Tuesday's start against the Minnesota Twins. He lasted just 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk. He struck out two and allowed two home runs. Martinez made it through a scoreless first inning before the Twins jumped on him for five runs in the second. He came back and pitched a scoreless third, but then couldn't get out of the fourth inning without allowing a run and yielding to the bullpen. Martinez was reportedly very impressive at Summer Camp and won his starting spot, but Tuesday was not a good first showing. He'll likely get another turn or two in the rotation, but the Cardinals won't be afraid to use him out of the bullpen if he continues to struggle in the rotation.
