Cardinals Could Be In The Mix For Pablo Lopez
2 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals rank near the top of the list of teams that could benefit from a trade for Miami Marlins right-hander Pablo Lopez. Current Cardinals starters Adam Wainwright, Miles Mikolas, Jack Flaherty and Jordan Montgomery will reach free agency after 2023, while Lopez is under team control for two more years and is only 26. St. Louis could have a surplus of outfielders in 2023, so players like Lars Nootbaar, Dylan Carlson and Tyler O'Neill could be trade candidates. According to sources, the two teams have engaged in at least preliminary trade talks. Lopez recently signed a one-year, $5.45 million deal with the Fish to avoid salary arbitration after he went 10-10 with a 3.75 ERA (3.71 FIP), 1.17 WHIP and 23.6% strikeout rate in a career-high 32 starts over 180 innings in 2022.
