Can Thairo Estrada Continue His Power And Speed Gains?
1 year agoSan Francisco Giants second baseman Thairo Estrada has shown massive improvements thus far in the power and speed categories compared to where fantasy managers ranked him in the preseason. Compared to his 14 home runs and 21 steals in 140 games in 2022, the 27-year old is currently sitting at nine homers and 18 steals having played just 67 games so far this year. An elevated strikeout rate paired with an unreasonably high .344 BABIP suggest that Estrada will soon face a batting average regression back towards the .260 mark. But the increases in fly ball rate and hard contact rate suggest the 20-homer power may be legit, while the steals speak for themselves. A 20/30 season from a middle infielder who sits in the top-3 of a solid Giants lineup is plenty valuable for any format of fantasy baseball. Until further notice, Estrada has cemented himself as a top-10 second baseman with potential to end up in the top-5 by season's end.
