Cameron Smith May Be Too Reliant on Putter to Consider at Liberty National
3 years agoWhile Cameron Smith is coming off a fifth-place finish in his last start at the WGC- FedEx St. Jude Invitational, the only reason he was in the mix was because he gained 9.7 strokes short game and putting. While it's hard to call that a spike putting week for Smith, who is one of the best putters in the world over a large sample size, I would prefer his ball-striking splits to be a little stronger. The three-time PGA Tour winner could definitely grind his way around Liberty National, and he is a evidently confident with the flat-stick right now, but I am concerned that he ranks outside of the top-50 in this field in strokes gained approach, strokes gained off the tee, and greens in regulation gained.
