There is certainly a roadmap for Cameron Smith to find success at Torrey Pines, but his path is far more difficult than other players in his price range. Over his last 36 rounds, Smith ranks outside the top 50 in strokes gained off the tee, strokes gained on approach, proximity from 200-plus yards and driving distance. He has also lost strokes on approach in three consecutive starts. Smith's saving grace is his putting and short game, as the three-time PGA Tour winner ranks ninth in strokes gained around the green and 24th in strokes gained in putting over his last 36 rounds. It is absolutely possible that Smith rides a hot short game and putter to the first page of the leaderboard, but it should not be counted on.--Andy Lack
