Cam Smith Traded To Houston
2 hours agoAccording to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, the Houston Astros are acquiring Chicago Cubs third base prospect Cam Smith in exchange for outfielder Kyle Tucker. Smith was drafted by the Chicago Cubs with the 14th overall pick in last year's draft out of Florida State. During his final season in college, the infielder played a crucial role in leading the Seminoles to the College World Series, launching 16 home runs and carrying an impressive .387 AVG. Smith got a brief look in the minor leagues during the final month of the 2024 season. Smith began his professional career at Single-A and held a .313/.404/.771 line across 15 games before moving up to High-A. With High-A South Bend, the 21-year-old stayed hot, posting a .333/.421/.500 line. Smith then concluded his debut season by getting a brief five-game look at Double-A. Smith is the premier piece in the package that sent Tucker to the Northside. Fantasy managers in dynasty formats should view Smith as a high-upside infielder who could even push for a late-season debut in 2025, given how well he performed at the conclusion of his rookie season.
