Cam Newton Placed On Injured Reserve
5 years agoWith no clear timetable for a return, the Carolina Panthers placed quarterback Cam Newton (foot) on season-ending Injured Reserve on Tuesday. Newton aggravated his Lisfranc injury in a Week 2 loss to the Buccaneers and hasn't played since. "For the past seven weeks, Cam has diligently followed a program of rest and rehab and still is experiencing pain in his foot," general manager Marty Hurney said in a statement. Kyle Allen, who is 5-1 in place of Newton, will move forward as the starter under center, but he's more of a game manager and has limited upside as a low-end QB2. Newton, 30, has one year left on his contract and is scheduled to count $21.1 million against the 2020 salary cap. You can go ahead and drop Newton if you were stashing him in redraft leagues.
