Caleb Smith's MRI Reveals Grade 3 Lat Strain
7 years agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Caleb Smith's MRI revealed a Grade 3 lat strain. The Grade 3 strain is a severe strain and will often require surgery. After leaving Sunday's start with what was first thought to be a groin injury, Smith may now see his rookie campaign end early with a lat strain. For reference, Noah Syndergaard missed about five months of time in 2017 due to a partially torn lat and Jake Peavy missed a year after tearing the lat completely off the humerus bone and needed surgery. Smith was leading all rookie pitchers in strikeouts so far but will now see a significant layoff that may end his season.
